I have a 2005 Jeep Wrangler X automatic - when I shift the gears won't engage. I put it in drive - it won't drive, same with reverse. What could it be?

Could be lots of things. Low Fluid-level? It could be a bad position-sensor. It could be a burned-out unit.

I have a 2006 that this has happened to twice. There is a bushing on the bottom of the Shifter cable that broke on mine that actually connects to an arm on the transmission. Unfortunately I had to buy the whole cable itself just to get the plastic bushing, but it slips on the end of the cable. This may be what is wrong with yours. Does it feel like it is going through the gears or does the shifter just seem to be loose? If it doesnt' feel like it is shifting then that is probably what it is. good luck!
